Frequently asked questions
All about cycling holidays
What is your vacation going to look like exactly? We understand that you might want to dive a little deeper into the details before booking. That is why you will find a list of the most frequently asked questions below.
Booking
How does the early booking discount work?
We receive an early booking discount from our hotels, which we pass directly on to you. The early booking discount and the end date for these discounts differ per hotel. Therefore, we advise you to always book as early as possible in order to maximize your discount opportunity.
Do we need to make a down payment?
Down payment is nice because it allows you to split the cost over time. The deposit is €250 per person without flight and €350 with flight. The final payment is only due 4 weeks before departure. We ask you to pay the rest of the holiday 4 weeks before departure.
How does the guarantee fund work?
If the holiday does not go through due to financial problems on our side, then you are entitled to a full refund which will be paid out to you by our guarantee fund, the VZR. This has luckily never happened and we plan to keep it that way. For more information visit the VZR website.
Is there an extra discount for my cycling club or large group?
Long story short – yes. We always provide special offers for larger groups based on your wishes. Visit this page to discover the possibilities.
Can I cancel my holiday after booking?
If you want to cancel your holiday, our cancellation policy applies. We advise you to always add our cancellation insurance to your booking. This way your money will be refunded if you are forced to cancel the trip due to illness or injury, for example.
Mallorca
What’s the weather like in Mallorca?
Mallorca is sunny. In general the temperature is at least 10 degrees warmer than in the Netherlands or Belgium.
How many vertical meters can we expect?
The amount of vertical meters on the trip depends on your wishes and ambitions. Mallorca has no high mountains, but there are plenty of climbing possibilities if that is what you’re seeking. We have routes that are nearly flat (app. 200vm) but also those that are full of climbing (approx. 2500-3000vm). When taking part in group rides you can let the guides know your preferences and they will take them in to account in making their plans.
How long are the rides?
Our routes are between 60 and 160 kilometers per day. However, we are happy to create custom routes outside of these distances for you if you prefer. There are also shorter touring routes for recreational cyclists for both trekking and e-bikes.
Is it possible to visit Sa Calobra and Cap Formentor from Can Pastilla?
Absolutely! The route is about 150km. If this is too far, we can also transport your group along with your bikes to the north so that you get to experience these beautiful attractions. If you are staying in Port de Pollenca, these hotspots are close by as it is located at the foot of Cap Fermentor.
Hotels
Is the online booking system based on availability?
No, our online booking system does not track the availability of our rooms. If your desired room is not available, we will work with you to find the best alternative.
How do you monitor the quality of the hotels?
We include all feedback from our guests in our hotel selection. We also regularly stay in the hotels ourselves to test the quality. This has caused us to no longer work with certain hotels anymore because we no longer felt the price and quality were up to our standards. You can count on the fact that all of our hotels have been carefully selected and monitored in order to offer you the best experience possible.
Is an all-inclusive stay possible?
All of our hotels provide breakfast to overnight guests. The costs for Half Board or Partial Board are quite limited and that is why we usually recommend this. Full Board or All-Inclusive is also possible in certain hotels such as HM Tropical and Hotel Pollensa Park & Spa. We are happy to provide this upon request.
Do all the hotels have bike parking facilities?
All of the hotels in our selection have a place where you can safely park your bike. The size and features of these spaces vary from hotel to hotel.
Can I wash my cycling gear at the hotel?
Most of the hotels have washing machines which are usually free for guests to use and you can buy washing tablets at the reception for a small fee. If you wish to have your cycling clothes laundered and taken care of for you then choose Hotel Helios where this service is included in your stay.
Can I book other hotels in Mallorca through you outside of the standard selection?
Yes, this is possible upon request. We can help you book your hotel of choice anywhere on the island for a small additional charge. This way you can add a small personal touch to your trip or bike tour!
Flight
If I arrange the flight myself, will you arrange a transfer?
Yes, hotel transfer is always included. We ask that you let us know your flight details in advance and we will personally be waiting for you at the airport when you arrive, or we will arrange for a transfer company to pick you up.
Can I book the flight directly online through you?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. You can inform us of your flight preferences which we will take into account and then present you with various proposals out of which you can choose. We do our best to find the best possible flights with the most favorable flight times.
What does it cost to book a flight through you?
To book a flight we charge €10 per person per flight.
Which airlines do you book with?
We usually book our flights through low-budget airlines such as Transavia, Ryanair, TUIfly, Vueling, Brussels Airlines, and Easyjet, although any airline is possible upon request.
Can I bring my own bike?
Yes, most airlines offer this option for an extra €130 on average. You also need to make sure you have a proper bike case and the knowledge of dismantling and putting your bike back together properly. In most cases is it cheaper and simpler to just rent a bike in Mallorca. Only with longer stays in Mallorca (2 weeks or more) can it pay off to bring your own bike.
What happens if the flight prices rise or fall at the time of booking?
Unfortunately, airlines can unexpectedly increase (or decrease) prices. If the difference is small (€15 or so) we will still book the flight. If the difference is greater, we will contact you first. We only book the flight once we have received the deposit.
Do I need a passport?
No, your ID card is sufficient.
When will I receive my flight tickets?
Free check-in is only possible 2 days before departure. Therefore, you will receive your boarding passes 1 to 2 days before your departure.
What to Bring
I am going on a cycling holiday in Mallorca, what do I bring?
First, you would take anything you would normally bring on a week-long vacation such as clothes and toiletries. For cycling, you need to bring: cycling clothes, a helmet, shoes, pedals, and of course, excitement to get on the road!
If you are unable to bring your own pedals, you can always rent them from us. A set of pedals comes to €2 per day.
If you wish, you can also bring your own saddle which will install for you. A pump, spare tire, and tire levers are included with the bike.
What travel information will I get?
One of the benefits of Clips Mallorca Cycling is our route magazine that we will send to you digitally after booking. It contains tons of facts and information about Mallorca and you can already check out the routes with your cycling buddies.
You will also receive an overview of all your travel details and vouchers for the transfer.
Once in Mallorca, you will receive some additional information about, for example, the routes. Are you going on a tour? Then you will also receive luggage tags when you pick up your bike.
Can I give you my bike specifications prior to departure?
A few weeks before departure we ask you to provide your bike specs. This way we can make sure your bike is ready to go upon your arrival in Mallorca.
Guided Rides
How are cycling groups created?
We want every guest to be able to cycle at his or her own level. That is why we have various groups available that you can join, each with its own distance and speed. We take personal needs and wishes into account to ensure that a suitable group is available for everyone. More information can be found here.
Which routes are chosen?
There are several different routes available each week to participate in. These routes give a good idea of what to expect, but we take personal preferences and desires into account with each of our rides. Our guides know the most beautiful roads and the loveliest villages in Mallorca and can quickly adapt to the group’s needs. We don’t want to make our routes “fixed” or “mandatory” so that we can accommodate everyone and ensure that everyone has the best time possible.
When can I join a group ride?
Our guided group tours happen every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Departure is at 9:30 AM, except in early spring when we usually leave 30 minutes later.
- We offer guided tours out of Can Pastilla from March 6st to May 31st and from September 1st to October 20th
- We offer guided tours out of Port de Pollenca from April 1st to May 31st and from September 1st to October 20th
(Private) guided tours are, of course, always available upon request, in addition to private tours through Mallorca. Want to cycle with a guide outside the cycling season? Contact us!
Can I bike alone with a Garmin GPS?
Cycle our round trip with one of our navigation systems or, in season, cycle for free with one of our guides. Rather cycle alone? You will receive our GPX files by e-mail. You can easily transfer these to your own GPS and experience the most beautiful Majorcan routes on your own.
I have a disability or illness but would still like to cycle
We have experience guiding inclusive cycling trips for people with disabilities. We will work together with you to make sure you have an unforgettable holiday.
How much does it cost to join a group ride?
You can participate in guided rides for free. In order to help us plan well to ensure everything goes smoothly, we ask you to register in advance if possible.
Cycling Tours
Can the tour deviate from the tours highlighted in the booking system?
Yes, upon request we can tailor the tour completely to your liking. This way you can stay longer in one location, or skip a location that doesn’t interest you. Please contact us to discuss the possibilities.
Do tours include luggage transport?
All of our tours include luggage transport. We will transport your suitcases from hotel to hotel. If you prefer to take up the extra challenge and transport your own belongings, you can indicate this while booking.
What are the average distances and vertical meter gains per day?
The distances vary from 60 to 100 km per route per day – longer routes are also available upon request. If you feel you want to cycle even more you can also decide to cycle on your rest days, as we provide beautiful routes for each location.
Vertical meters differ per tour – you can head into the Tramuntana mountains or stick to the flatter parts of the island.
Of course there is choice between road, trekking, or e-bikes.
Will I see the small villages in Mallorca?
You will stay in our hotels in the coastal towns of Can Pastilla, Port de Pollenca, and Port de Soller (as desired). On the recreational tour you will also spend the night in a Bed & Breakfast in Sineu. We have created a variety of tours to ensure that everyone’s needs and desires are met. Along the way you will pass through beautiful, charming, and authentic villages where it seems like time has stood still.
